Tank is cycled!

Hi everyone!

I'm very excited today, because my 10 gal tank has finally finished cycling! And I did a water change tonight, and only a couple of planaria got sucked out, so that seems to be under control too!

Which means...

Time for more fish! Hurrah! Only a few though. I'm trying to decide what I want to get. I was thinking about fancy guppies, but my 2 female platies are already keeping me plenty busy with fry. I *really* want to get a betta, as I love them, but I understand that that's risky for everyone involved. A ghost shrimp or two might be cool. I'm not crazy about catfish, though the teeny pygmy ones might be neat if I could find them. Maybe a couple of African Dwarf frogs? I've heard they can be somewhat noisy though. I really want to get something colorful and/or interesting. So many fish to choose from, so few slots available!

So what would you add if you had a 10 gallon tank with 3 platies and some plants?

Also, speaking of ghost shrimp, if I put a couple in my 3 gallon fry tank, would they be likely to harm the fry, or would they be useful and eat the particles of food that the babies miss?

As always, thank you in advance for any replies! Now I'm off to do the Tank Is Cycled Happy Dance.

Re: Tank is cycled!

I can only answer a few of them.I really wouldn't mix African Dwarf Frogs with tropical fish because it will be difficult for the frogs when competing for food. Ghost shrimps would eat the fry. I would get corys or pygmy corys if you don't want guppies.

you could add a few otos or corys to that tank, i think.. or male guppies.

fry unfortunately seem to be mistaken for food by everyone.. so i'm not sure what a ghost shrimp would do if he enounted some fry.

Congratulations on the cycled tank! Feels good!

Now that your tank has 3 platies, I guess you only add 4 inches of fish in the tank........unfortunately bettas and ghost shrimp are likely to eat fry, although they are wonderful creatures. I think a nice addition would be 2 pygmy cories. But, another pair of platies or guppies is nice, too. Good luck with your fish keeping!
