platies and guppies together

I have 3 platies (2 females 1 male) and several guppies. I am now on my 3rd batch of guppy fry, I think. The platies have been in the tank for at least 4 weeks. Do platy fry look like guppy fry? I thought I read that the platy fry are born with some color unlike the guppy fry who develop color after about 2 months or so. I am wondering if the platies have had any fry or not

Thanks much

I have the same problem, Reds. After a week, you should be able to see the difference between "guppy tail" and "platy tail". My platys color up after a week. However, one of my females is blue and another is white, so that may be part of the cause of the lack of color.

My platies come out colored. Also the guppy fry looks a little bit longer and skinnier than the platies. In my tank it's pretty easy to see the difference.

Also, keep an eye out for hybrids, they could breed with eachother.... Most platties have colored fry, while guppies are colorless and smaller LOL

So did I. I know Platies and Swordtails can breed together and I know Swordtails and Guppies cannot crossbreed so I would assume that Guppies and Platies cannot cross. But all my knowledge is third hand. I guess soon enough you'll be able to set the record straight from first hand experience.

Well I have so many babies now that I cant tell if they are platies or guppies, although I do have some turning a little orange. I guess I will have to wait and see. Thanks much
