to feed or not to feed

I have a new batch of guppy fry about 1+ week old and I know that you should feed them at least 3 times a day. I crushed up freeze dried bloodworms, freeze dried baby shrimp, algae crisps, tropical flakes for the fry. I have been feeding very very small amounts to the tank 3 x daily. Most of the babies are right at the top hidden in the java moss and water sprite and I give a very little there and a little on the other side to draw the other fish. Is this too much for the other fish in the tank??

I have increased the amount of water changes to accommodate the extra feeding but wanted to make sure the fish are not being overfed. Of course they love me (the food)!!!

sound perfect! soaking some of their food in fresh garlic juice, will help the fry as they grow also....I feed my fry tanks(which sound like yours!) 3-4x a day ..and as you , I up the water changes ...ive also added some cories to the bottom to help clean up of food ..great job !

They are not in a fry tank, they are in my 35 gallon tank with the other fish. Does that make a difference

that could unless you can target feed which seems you are..but some members feed their adult fish that many times a day just smaller feedings...most of my fry hang in the floating plants also ...as long as your fish are acting normal and not bloating, I think you are doing fine maybe throw in a pea or two a couple times a week wont hurt

frozen are best...less salt and preservatives added..thaw one out on the counter...deshell it..and cut tiny pieces and feed to the fishies

You can just boil a few frozen peas. Remove the outer shell and mash up the pea with a little bit of water. It should look like baby food. You can feed small amounts with a toothpick. That's what I did.

Personally, I found raising fry easier in a separate fry tank. I had just a bare bottom 5g with a sponge filter and heater. This was you can feed the fry as needed. The bare bottom makes it easy to clean with a turkey baster. The small volume also makes it easy to make lots of water changes.

Have fun. Those little babies grow fast!

This is my second batch and it was easier for me to just leave them in the tank. The first batch are 5-6 weeks now and coloring up beautifully.

How much garlic juice are we talking about? A drop or two?

Hello Beth. A drop or two should do just fine. Just enough to soak the food. With garlic being an immune system booster (and food enhancer) a drop or 2 can be added directly to the tank as well.
