I need some input on my guppy tank

Hi all!

Last month, I am sad to say that I had quite a few guppy deaths and to this day, I still don't know what the poor little things died from. I had gotten some more guppies since then so the fish count is back up to five.

Four of the guppies are fancy guppies and the fifth, is a guppy/endler hybrid or I'm assuming he is because he's so tiny and he has bright almost neon colors in him. Last week, my apple snail passed away so I only have two zebra nerites, pond snails and some tiny Planorbis snails that came off of some water lettuce I purchased awhile back in there that clean the tank.

What I would like to know is if I don't get another apple snail, who are poop machines, would it be too much if I got an endler to put in there? I think Billy(the guppy/endler cross) would like having someone close to his size in there. My concern is overstocking the tank which is a 10 gallon natural planted tank. I keep hearing that five guppies the the most you should put in a tank that size yet others say that 10 guppies could easily be kept in 10 gallons. What do you all think of this? The last thing I want to do is overstock.

im sorry for your losses
in an all male tank, i think you would be pushing the limit...they can be agressive with one another in smaller tanks.....so if everyones getting along now, id not risk it...but thats me with proper/extra water changes, im sure bioload wise you could have a couple more...

Sorry about your little ones. I agree with shawnie on the all males tank. Lucy had an experience that is well worth mentioning. She got 5 males. Then she wanted to add a couple more and the others rejected them(as in bullied them around, and picked on them)

Most of the time males do well when added together, though if you were to decide to add more, you would have to get the new guy, remove all your other males, then add one by one, so they can get used to the new guy.

I hope i made sense lol

Not too long ago, I had 12 young male guppies in a 10 gallon. I wouldn't recommend it. They were over-crowded and some developed fin rot from the stress. They are now much happier in a 20 gallon tank.

Hello RedRose. I agree that should you add another guppy at this point there could be aggression issues. I think you have the room to add a buddy for the one you currently have. A larger tank is always nice as well but not always possible. If you do decide to add another male guppy I would rearrange the tank, do something to throw the other guppies off track from the new addition.
Best of luck.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I'll hold off on getting another little guppy or endler for now. The last thing I want is aggression in the tank although my Wally did try that awhile back but it was very short lived. I've never seen guppies take a stand like that so it was very interesting to see!

If I had a tank that could easily be re-arranged, I would consider giving it a try but I have nothing but live plants in there so I can't pull them out and place them in a different location. My poor guppies would be swimming around in mud if I did that!
