Endler or Guppy?

On Wednesday, I had gotten a new little guppy for my 10g that has four guppies in there already.

On the outside of the tank, it said that he is a Japanese Blue Sword guppy. He is very small compared to my other gups so I was wondering if he's just a very young guppy or and Endler or maybe a cross? The only reason I'm wondering if he's possibly an Endler is because of his size.

The video is brief but there's a fairly good view of him and it's not hard to mistaken him from the others. lol

Also, the very first guppy in the video is Daniel and if anyone can tell me what tail type he is, I'd really appreciate it. When I first got him, he looked like a Delta but when his tail started to get longer, they formed what looks like spikes. His tail almost reminds me of a Crowntail betta's fins. Now before anyone asks, it's not from fin rot. He's never had fin rot before. His tail just grew this way.

Hello mandy
i believe that the little fish that swims almost near the end is an endler.

Hi Tony!

Here's a print screen of him from that clip. I tried to take pictures of him instead but he wouldn't stay still for me. lol

I had a feeling he was an endler or a cross between the two when I brought him home but I wasn't sure. I think he's a little cutie.

p.s. I love your signature. It's so true! My guppies are a friendly little bunch whereas Max can be quite mean, especially to the pond snails.

Thanks Tony.

I just assumed that he was a guppy because that's what it said on the tank at Big Al's. I'm hoping that someone will know if he's a pure strain or not. It doesn't matter to me either way because he loves it in there with everyone.

Wow thank you for bringing this to my attention! I bought a girl guppy for 15 cents a long time ago and she had 6 babes. Now they are near the end of their growth and they look small like endlers. Two have colored up nicely with multi color swirls and impressive dots. Maybe they are gupss but they look just like your little endler!

Your fish is not a pure endlers...they hybridize so easily if mixed with guppies....and there are some gorgeous endler/guppy hybrids out there.

Thanks TedsTank.

If he's a hybrid, will he get as big as my other guppies or will he stay the size that he's at now?

thats an endlers guppy alright! i'd almost say its full blown endlers but theres no way u can be for sure.

as for some hybrids making some pretty neat babies i can attest to that. I have some endlers that bred with my fancy guppies and some of the babies look pretty awesome! I could get some pics and post them if u were really interested...

Looks like a wild guppy crossed with domesticated stock to me. Wild stock guppies are smaller and more energetic since they haven't been selectively inbred for multiple generations. They're occaisonally crossed with domestic stock to get fresh blood into some otherwise relatively weak/delicate fish. IME guppies sometimes have the black circle on their body, while peacock Endler's have one on their tail.

Greetings!

I had also asked about Ricky on another forum earlier on today and someone there said that Japanese Blue guppies are derived from a wild strain of guppy. I had looked up photos on what wild guppies look like and they resemble Ricky a lot. Of course, he could very well have endler in him too because of his size. It was a bit difficult to judge the wild guppies size from a picture.

enthusiast,

I'd love to see some pictures of your endlers/guppy hybrids!
