dead fry?

is it normal for there to always be a couple that are stillborn? or not fully formed when the fry are born?

i have a female platy, this is her third batch of fry...just had them tonight. this is the 2nd time in a row where she has had a few DOA.

just wondering if this is common or if there might be some underlying issue

hmm well it is normal to get some still borns but not that many maybe 2-3 out of 60. (ive had that happen) however, if it is constant, i would assume your platy or the dad have some genetic faults, maybe having some deformities during her gestation period.

then it should be fine. Sometimes theyre born still born because in the position the are born. if you notice, they come out in a "c" shape and sometimes their spines just didnt develop, so they cant move and everntually die.

Good morning. I agree that from time to time there will be some still born fry. I had blue platy's years ago and I also had some twins. The female would birth what looked like a little ball with eyes then all of a sudden 2 would emerge from the ball. It was amazing.
