With life there is also death.

I lost one of my big female guppies today, one of the 3 original guppies I bought when I got into the hobby. I think it was the one that gave birth to a good portion of the fry I have now though. She didn't seem that old but her size indicates that she has prolly been around a while. At least I hope its age and not ICH that got her. She did die after I did an ich treatment on the tank due to noticing ich spots on my rams and sluggish behavior from the other fish in the tank.

The ICH treatment seems to have worked though as the fish seem back to their normal selves tonight. In 2 days I will do a water change, and put put new carbon back in the filter.

She leaves behind a ton of babies so I will find one of her children to move to the 30 gallon when the babbies are big enough.

I lost another one. I am not sure whats going on now. The only thing I can figure is either the ich treatment has crashed my cycle or removing the carbon media from the filter is making the filter not work as well as it should. The filter still has its sponge, bio balls, ceramic rings, and the scrubber pad. I do find it hard to believe that a perfectly cycled 0,0,40 tank would crash out in a matter of hours though. After today I have another day left of ich treating so I will keep my fingers crossed that I don't lose any of my swords, rams, or bottom feeders. Then its a 50% water change and new carbon media.

One thing I may have to do is remove the one remaining female guppy from the 30 gallon so the 2 males don't pester her to death. They seem content to try to get jiggy with the sword females as well though so she may be alright. She is prolly better off where she is though seeing as the 10 gallon hosts 6 male endlers.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Some chemicals can certainly destroy your cycle in no time. Can even cause your pH to crash as well. If at all possible, (hopefully you won't have this problem again) treat ICH with increased water temps to 84 or 85 for two weeks. At the end of the two weeks do a good gravel vac and water change to remove ICH spores that have fallen to the bottom. I don't trust any chems that treat ICH. ICH cannot survive in temps over 82 degrees. Good luck

Got home from work and am now down to 1 living guppy. I evacuated the last male to my 10 gallon where he is now making friends with the Endlers. Also there was a dead cory cat.

I am baffled as I just did a water test and the readings are ph 7, 0 amonia, 0 nitrites, and 40 nitrates. I have turned up the heater to 85 and will continue to monitor. The Rams seem a bit more active though not interested in food. The swords swarmed the food though. The Kolies seem to be theirselves. The other cories are at acting like themselves more. The snails are alive and kicking.

I hope I am in the downhill part of this fight. 24 hours to go though but I am hopefull. ICH is a terrible villan to fight and has taken a 6 of my soldiers, but the new fry I am raising in my 10 gallon gives me at least some comfort as one of them is a sword, a ton of them are guppies, and 2 of them are cories. I guess this is part of the hobby, but I can't help but feel that my 30 gallon tank has turned against me.
