Guppy female will, usually, get a square shape to her chest area the day or two before giving birth. She will often try to get away from the other fish, either going to the very top or very bottom of the tank, or into a clump a dense plants (such as guppy grass, java moss, etc.)

What a coincidence, my guppy just gave birth today! When her butt gets dark, she should give birth within a few days. What I mean is, the two spots on her back side will turn black. As the other poster said, she will try to get away from the other fish, but if you have other guppies, then she will have a very hard time doing this. I'm surprised my guppy survived, because she was chased non stop during her pregnancy. When she tries to get away from the other fish (even if she can't) she will hide in plants and kind of "sit down" on the leaves.
