would platys and guppies be compatible with each other Also, i was wondering if i could get 1 male guppy, 2 female guppy, 1 male platy, 2 female platy, and a little cleaner fish that sucks the food off floor? i have a 10 gallon tank.

Guppies and Platies are great together. And the mix you propose along with a few 3 or 4 coreys would be nice. I love Pleco's but givin that they can get many inches long, I would not recommend one in a 10 gal. If you add plants with your platies and guppies you should not have to worry about overcrowding...(I've had up to 300 in a 10 gal doing just fine though I don't recommend that either)...and still be able to enjoy some fry. If you don't add plants you won't have fry that survive for long and that means no over crowding worries at all.

The numbers you are asking about should do fine in a 10g with 3 corydoras cats.

I wouldn't advise even bristlenose plecos for a 10g just because of their size and bioload. Being as bulky as they are they produce more waste than would be good for a 10g tank to try to support, in my opinion.

I also agree with RK, unless you have a large sump or system going having hundreds of them in a 10g wouldn't be something you would see a whole lot of success with, without having the knowledge of how to handle such a tank. (More of a whole-saler tank setup there, rather than a hobbyists tank, I think.)

Actually, I used to breed them that way. 6 or 8 strands of cobombia or other floating plant, 4 males, 8 females, feed daily and clean out a few hundred fry monthly. Reset and hold fry for a month in 20 gal. then next month rotate again and sell last months fry. Also have alot of plant to sell.

Only ever got store credit but was worth it. The trick was to keep a balance with fish and plant and I used UG filters with air stones. Also, lots of alge in tanks to support insoferia for the fry.

Building up a variation on that for breeding Danio's now. But tanks need to be aged and although don't look pretty, the water was clean enough to drink if there was a need.

Ohhh. I got what you are saying now, RK. I thought you meant several hundred adults.

Yeah, we have the same basic setup with one of our guppy strains and can easily pull 20-50 fry a week with just a couple of girls in the tank.
