Pregnant platy and guppy?

I recently got a yellow guppy and was hoping for fry. she did not! Then today I got a yellow guppy and platy. At petsmart the guppy looked ready to explode. When I got home it did not look even close to what it looked like in the pet store. The platy looks a bit big, too. After I fed them my guppy looked large again. Not as big but still big. My brother about three weeks ago got two female dalmation mollies. The next day we relized one was bigger than the other... A few days later we looked at her again and looked about as big as the other one-averge. The next day I went to feed his fish and Their I saw 4 fry. we saved them but 2 looked bigger than the other two. They are 3 weeks old how long until we put them in his tank.

Hi there you have to wait till they dont fit in there parents mouth (the one bit kind of deal) then you should be ok. If i remember correctly there adult within 3 month so you shouldnt have to wait too long if there well feed. If im wrong anyone correct me im just going by memorie here.

Yes, thats right, in three months they will be adults and they can be put in the main tank as long as they dont fit in the adults mouth anymore.

I know sometime when there stressed they will abort the pregnancy (and i have no idea how they do that) but the up side is once she gets pregnant she is good for about 3 to 4 batch of fry so odds are she is already expecting again!! Gratz to you your going to be a mom again

Thanks for the advice on everything! So what you are saying is that she probably because of her stress level aborted her pregnancy. Still she could have fry ?

Females of both guppies and platies store sperm for upwards of 6 months. They reinseminate themselves with the stored sperm. So yes, the females could continue to drop fry for months. They have a 28-32 day normal gestation period from date of insemination.

I also find that if you have lots of hiding places...real or fake plants caves floating plants etc than the babies will survive the main tank...after 2-3 days the adults no longer really go after the babies as by that time they are real fast. They are born being smart enough to know that they are on the menu and are real good at hiding. If you pull the babies out of the tank at birth you have to be very carefull about putting them back as then the adults will see them as a nice tasty snack that Mom is giving them...I prefer the well planted and well fed ( not overfed) method as I find the females are less stressed if they are not placed in a breeder. The week and slow will be eaten and the fastest strongest will make it. Make sure there are lots of hiding places for mom to give birth in if you use this method. Also make sure your filter intake is covered so the fry do not get sucked into the filter.

My palty all of the sudden looks huge. The only reason I am worried is because she is seariously huge. I was very upset about my guppy and now I want to make sure. It happend over night. The only thing that may have made prego is my balloon molly. Do you have any pics of prego platy's. Thanks for any advice
