I had to turn up the tank tempurature two days ago due to a new case of
ICH. I have an empty breeding tank in the tank as one of my swordtails is about to give birth in the next few days. I did my normal weekly tank cleanings. I went out for a few hours and when I got back to the house I found my white male platy lounging in the breeding box. "Gold medal performance I am sure". I am sorry I missed the accurate leap into the breeding tank. This morning I woke up to find my blue female platy in the fry side of the tank. I was fortunate enough to have three batches of fry during the past 8 weeks.
I bought a plastic tank divider (Excellent way to maintain one tank for adults and fry) to seperate the fry from the adult population. With three different batches of fry born at different times they range in various sizes. I freaked out thinking that the blue female platy has eaten all of the under 6 weeks fry. I did a quick fry count and have accounted for all 21 fries. I am still pondering how the blue platy was able to get over the divider. "Another Gold Medal Performance" I missed this one too. I am now seriously contemplating in setting up a camcord to record their daily events just to see how prepare themselves for the
games....
I do have one question to ask... Did my turing up the tempurature to get rid of the ich cause my platies to become athletic? Or is this an indication that the increase in tempurate is hurting them. The tempurate was at 25C and it is hovering at 28-29c. According to the forum I should hold the higher temperature for two weeks and that the temperature would not affect my fish.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
