15g Platy tank

We decided to try keeping platys for a bit. The bf got a few predator fish: gar, a FW barracuda and our Datnoid. They will need feeders. So we have to get our platys conditioned so we can have healthy feeders for the hunters. I am not a huge fan of predators but we need experience keeping all fish.
We will be getting discus but not until we save up some money to order ones on line.
Here's some pixs.

Really nice tank, Allie, it looks bigger than 15.

I had the that size rock in my 5g hex and found it hard to vacuum.
How do you manage it?
What is the sponge for?

We use a python for water changes so it sucks all the crud right up easily. The sponge is covering the filter intake tube so that when the babies come they won't get sucked into the filter.
