stocking my 29 high (livebearers)

Ok... So my 29 high is almost ready for fish, and I was thinking... Guppy's and Molly's! and maybe corydoras or khuli loaches for bottom feeders later,I'm not sure if this combo would work and if so how many of each I should have? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Guppies and mollies usually cohabitate well together.

They can crossbreed if they aren't kept stocked with enough breeding mates of their own species. So I would suggest:

2 male guppies
6 female guppies
2 male mollies
4-6 female mollies

You could still do 3 cories or 6 kuhlis (sand substrate for kuhlis if possible) and be fine.

If you wanted an all male tank so you didn't worry about fry (although with both species you should get very few if any fry survive their parents and other fish eatting them) you could do:

8 male guppies
6 male mollies
3 cories or 6 kuhlis

(I wouldn't suggest this setup as much, simply because I'm sure it would cause a slight bit more aggression between the males not having females to mate with, as well as not giving them as close to a natural setup as possible.)

Hope that helped.

I have guppies, mollies and 3 new swordtails in my 29 gallon. It's looking more "lived in" now, but once the fry start coming/growing, I'll need a new tank. Oh, darn. (I currently have a 29 gal community, 1.5 gal nursery and 1 gal betta)

Gee, I hope swordtails are nice to guppies... I forgot to check. May be getting a new tank sooner! They seem to all be getting along well so far.

I think swordtails would get along with guppies just fine.

I like the tanks described!

Make sure to get the right male/female ratio

Hey,

When it comes to livebearers, make sure you get the "right" male/female ratio. According to this aquarium care article on livebearers, it's best to keep a ratio of 1 male livebearer for very 2 females.

If you get too many males, they may fight with each other (though this may not be as big of a problem in a 29 gallon tank). And, if there are not enough females, they may get too much "special attention" from the males, thus causing undo stress in the females.

So getting the right male/female ratio is pretty important...
