How do you tell?

How do you know when the femalle Molly is ready to pop?? I have 3 girls and 1 male and babies about 3 weeks old. I dont know who had them. 2 of my girls are huge and is there a way to know so I can seperate her.

Watch for her back end to 'square off'. It will look like a corner sort of and she'll probably start looking for a quiet place in the tank to drop and be very snippy with the other fish.

She looks as if she could drop at any time now, her back end is squaring off and I'd expect the fry to come very soon. Usually they drop within a day or 2 of looking like that. You might want to test the water conditions to see if she's holding her fry.

If I try to seperate them she get all upset. Today my other girl is not eating and hiding. I think they are waiting for each other and are going to go together. I have one girl that is solid black and a male solid black, I have one girl that has some silver around her gills and now that her belly is big you can see some silver there as well. My third girl is silver. My silver girl and the male put on quite a show this morning. What a dance. Anyway I hope one of the 2 black girls goes soon as them seem so large like they will pop. Thanks and I will keep you posted. I have fond some great info here.

What do you have to feed them?

I have a 10 gallon tank full of molly fry too. I feed crushed flakes twice a day, and frozen baby brine shrimp twice a day for the first week, then start feeding only three times a day, all the time doing daily water changes to keep nitrates down, as the fry don't eat much of the food. They just have to have the chance to eat though, to keep growing fast.

I feed the same thing, brine shrimp ans Tetra color flakes crushed to powder. They are so cute. I was happy to save 14 of the fry. I said I was not going to worry about them in my community tank but when I saw them I had to save as many as I could. I have 2 more girls ready to go any day now. Here are some pictures of them at 24 hours.
