Shall I get a couple of female platies for my male molly?

OK, sounds twisted, but here's the story. I have a male molly that was constantly bullied by my other male, so in the end, yesterday, we decided to give the shy one a tank of his own, with only females. The tank is not that large (12G) so we couldnt' get 3 molly females in there. Right now, I've got one molly female, him, and 2 molly fry. I am toying with the idea of adding a couple of female guppies or platies for company. They're not as big as mollies.

But am worried he tries to mate with them and, well, hurts them in the process. Any of you have mixed livebearers before?

I am not saying for sure, but you -should- be alright as long as you provided enough hidey holes and line-of-sight breaking objects/plants. Mollies and Guppies do breed together though. Their fry are ugly and sterile fish called muppies.

You're serious about the name of the fry?

Yeah, I've made sure about the broken line of sight and lots of holes. Always my first priority when setting up a new tank.

In the end, I just took molly fry from other tanks in the house and stuck it in with the male. Now it's 1 molly male, 1 molly female, and 4 fry.

Yes, Muppies is the name of the offspring, search it sometime.. I do think, however, that if it had a female molly to go after it would choose her, but surely sometime she'd fend him off and he'd go to his second best. Good luck on the tank.
