Price on 100+lbs of lace rock?

Had an offer via CL for 100+ lbs of lace rock and enough sand to fill a 125g tank for 50$ earlier. Is this a decent buy for the rock and sand? It was previously in saltwater, but it'd be going in to freshwater if I bought it. It'd be cleaned thoroughly, bleached and dechlorinated.

Any opinions? It'd be going in to a 55g mbuna tank that is currently under construction.

To me it seems like a waste of rock really...but hey, for 50 bucks why not?!

Not sure why the thread was moved in to saltwater live rock, but regardless, why would it be wasted rock? The lace rock has already been out of the tank for 2 weeks and been cleaned. The woman is just looking to get rid of it at this point.

It would be a waste if it was live rock because it would be very porous and worth about a couple dollars a pound even dry.

From what I know about lace rock is that it is not as porous as more live rocks and is meant more for decor in either fresh water or salt water. I think this should be moved back to where ever it came from since it is not live rock that you are dealing with.

This is a good deal and should work. It would need to be cycled though since it might still have dead bacteria that will decay and create a lot of ammonia. I bet you will be able to wash the rock most of the way but the sand I think will retain the bacteria quite well...but if its going into a new tank it shouldn't be a problem other then taking a little longer to cycle.

Thank you for the info GM. I guess I'll make a new post under freshwater substrate to talk more about it, because I have a lot more questions.
