some one please help me salt water probs

Hi, i have a 30 gal tank with a few fish, a porcupine puffer and a maroon clown fish, i just recently bought a dwarf lion fish for a new friend for the both of them, however the next morning i found my poor new fish not breathing. I checked the water levels pH, all that stuff and every thing was fine, also the other fish seem to be enjoying themselves, i want to know what im doing wrong before i put another fish in. Im very sad right now cus my fave fish is the lion fish and id really love to try to get another one some time

anything will help thanks

Dwarf lions can be kept in a 30g minimun but will require a 50 when fully grown ,

The porcupine puffer needs a 100g+ and is prone to ick this is why your fish could be gasping ,, you really need to rehouse your puffer asap ,,

As for your chocolatechip star if keeping inverts this needs to rehomed to as they will eat inverts and fish if it can catch them and normally feeds at night so can catch fish resting ,,

Do you have good water movement as you dont have a skimmer for helping to oxegenate the water

When purchasing fish please check requirments for accomadating the fish,,
As your tang also required a 100g minimum and the stress from being in such a small tank proberly killed him and if that didnt the ick would of done ,,

And welcome to fishlore

Hi thanks for the help, i would like to say first of all i am upgrading my tank as we speak i went to petco and i did ask them what fish could be kept in the tank but i read the puffer did need bigger tanks, so i am currently upgrading to a 100 gal, as for my poor lion its really sad cus ive always wanted a lionfish, when i got the 30 gal it was to set up a small group of fish, after reading on puffers I decided to help the lil guy out cus well hes my fave fish has the best personality. ive been watching for ICH but he doesnt seem to gasp much the only thing i can really put into the lion problem is either my nitrates are bad or petco has a problem with takeing care of my fish....all of the other fish are doing well and i am purchusing my new tank next month, i was considaring getting a skimmer but the guy at petco said it wasnt needed.... maybe they just dont reaserch the pets they bring in or somthing cus i asked them what would go well in a 30 gal tank and they told me the puffer would be perfect...... i now know to reaserch all my fish before buying them.....especally from petco....i feel like a monster to fish right now

Welcome To FishLore

Upgrading to a 100 gallon will help your fish alot and give them more room to move around

Always research ANY fish/inverts/corals before purchase!
