This is just a question of curiosity. What are some compatible tank mates for a full size (not dwarf) lionfish? Would tangs work? I don't have a salt tank, but I would like to eventually, and I love lionfish, so within a few years I'd like to start a rather large salt tank, but I don't want to get my hopes up about lions and tangs if that isn't going to work. If they do work together, would there be any other fish that would work? As I said, I don't need a ton of detail, this is just my curiosity working.

fish of the same size or larger and semi agressive are ok with lions but they will eat smaller fish or inverts

i looked at that compatibility chart! i dont really believe some of the things it says.( no offense tumbleweed) here is one ex. my snowflake eel and my two clown fish, play all the time. ill have to find the videos i have. but it is like they play hide in go seek. and if i put a plastic ball in the water, half full so it sinks a little. my eel will rap around it, and my clown will try to copy the eel. but most of the stuff on there is true. i just dont believe that

The Chart is just a general rule of thumb. There are always exceptions to the rules. It says not to keep large angles with Corals because the tend to nip at them. But I kept a Emperor angle in my tank for quite a while and never had and issue with him nipping at my corals.

Are saltwater angels like freshwater angels in that you shouldn't keep a bunch of them together? More ideal is a mated pair, correct?

Salt water angle fish are very different then fresh water angles. You can keep some angles with other angels but not all. Each one is different, and it is highly unlikely that you will be able to get a pair of angels to mate. It also depends on the size of our tank on witch angle fish you can keep. Some of the dwarf angles can be kept in a 25-30gal tank while others like an Emperor angle will need at least a 100gal tank if not bigger.
