Dwarf Lionfish compatibilty and care

Hi

As some of you know i've been really wanting Dwarf lion for my nano.
I'd like a bit more info on them tho.
Would a 26 gal house one comfortable enough for it to be happy? As far as i know they are not really active fish...? Would they look at other fish sized 2in plus and inverts like shrimps, as food?
Thanks, I appreciate any help!

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...ture/index.php there's an informative link. Don't know how much you have researched on them but what type of tank is this 26 gallon tank. Usually the minimum for the smallest species is 30 gallons and its tank mates need to be picked carefully based on which species you buy. Usually larger fish do better with them. If I remember correctly most eat shrimp I"m pretty sure and leave snails and crabs alone.

Well, here's my 2 cents...

I've had a dwarf lion for about 1 month now. That's not long, so I don't claim any expertise here, but I can share some observations. As far as tank mates...yes, they will definately look at anything in the 2-3" range as food. What I read before buying mine was anything 1/2 the lion's size or less will eventually be a meal. Mine went after a chromis that was actually a little more than 1/2 it's size. So, for tank mates, here is my opinion...you need to choose things that will be within about an inch of the lion's size. A dwarf will end up in the 6-7" range, so I would not choose a tank mate of less than 5". That brings us back to your tank size. Yes, they are fairly sedentary most of the time, so in my opinion, you could keep one in a 26 gallon tank). BUT, given what was said concerning tank mates, you're not going to be able to keep much else in the tank with it without overloading the tank in a hurry. You would also need to keep very close tabs on water quality, as lions are messy and will pollute. They will eat shrimp, though I have not seen mine pay any attention whatsoever to the crabs and snails I have in there with it.

Whatever all that is worth, I hope it helps!

Thanks for that Sgould.
Hm. so basically i'm going to have to decide if i want to keep few or more fish...
What do you think about a dwarf angel or 2 and a mandarine fish for tank mates? They are moreorless the same size.

*Just to keep note, the total water in the system will be around 36 gallons as i have a sump as well.
