Lighting

Hello,

Since my fish tank is in the basement (where it gets pitch black at night), should I keep the fluorescent light in my fish tank on throughout the night, or is it ok to leave fish in the dark?

Thanks,

Re: Lighting

It is ok, actually desireable, for them to have a period of darkness. Like us, they need rest, and dark helps with that.

Re: Lighting

yea, they don't have eyelids to close, so the darker the better for their night part of the day to let them sleep.

haha, I hear lots of people are "seeing" their catfish blink. I think it's just that they turn their eyes in such a way that it looks as if they were blinking. Although ... I've never had any catfish so maybe I am wrong. But ... I know that none of my fish has eyelids.

And I agree that fish need a period of darnkess as well. How else do they live in nature? They have darkness at night, no? It's only natural that they should rest too.
