So I just switched from 1 T8 Eclipse Natural Daylight to 2 T5 at 3000K. I built my own tank hood.

Is that gonna be better or worse for my planted tank?

Obviously the color is a lot more yellow right now... personally I like it right now.

I personally have an eclipse for my 20 gal and I do fine with it so far. I like the look of it to, I am sure your new light is good for plants but I prefer white shining aquariums.

3000K is way too yellowish. Try to get something in the neighborhood of 6,400 to 6,700K for better light spectrum for photosynthesis.
