Coralife Aqualight 130

Yay! 48" 130w Coralife aqualight deluxe arrived today for my 55g tropical tank. I ordered it from Dr. Fosters and Smith.

Bad thing is one of the lamps came loose in shipping and smashed into the other. Full of broken glass

And I was looking forward to lighting my livingroom with that thing

BTW, when I get this sorted out, will I need CO2 injection for a 130w lamp on a 55g tank? Seems like it is on the upper limit of being able to get away without it, from the little bit I read on the topic.

The tank will be fairly heavily planted with plants that do well at that level of light.

I don't think you'll need CO2 or ferts. I had a couple of nice planted 55 gallon tanks with the same light. I added 2 of the Hagen Natural Plant Systems and didn't find that they helped, so I ended up taking them off the tank and running it without CO2 or ferts. My plants did fine.

Thanks. I have the tank planted with eco-complete, so fert is already there. Glad to know I can skip CO2. Once I saw the price and plumbing for a decent CO2 setup, I was somewhat shocked. heh

On the plus side, Dr Fosters and Smith said that new replacement lamps (bulbs) will be mailed to me directly by the manufacturer; glad I don't have to deal with shipping stuff back.

I also used Eco Complete. Great product IMO. I hope you have as much fun with your 55 as I did with mine.

The funny thing is, as I start to aquascape it, I'm already saying to myself "this would be better as a 90 gal" lol

My wife would string me up

Well of course it would be better in a 90! LOL. But you and I both know that's a lot of added cost... hence the reason I stuck with my 55 until I got married and combined tanks with my fishgeek husband.
