What size lights and how many

My Husband and I are getting ready to purchase a 120 gallon fish tank (72LX18HX24D). What size of lighting fixtures are you guys using? 36" or 72" and how many of each. If you could please give the brands that you use also. Thank You

That's a difficult question to answer.

Do you plan on having live plants, or are you looking at a fish-only tank?

If you plan on having plants, your best course of action would probably be to determine what plants you want, and tailor the lighting to what those plants need... I've made the mistake of buying a fixture and later deciding it wasn't enough, and I'd suggest not doing that

I think moving this thread to the Freshwater Equipment - lighting category would really help you on your questions. If you plan on buying plants, you can go to www.plantgeek.com and pick out plants that suits your comfort.

Well I am considering using silk plants so I would say a fish only tank with driftwood and a sand bottom. Maybe some rock formations.

You've probably found your answer already but if you haven't I recommend Coral life. Good brand. Use their Mini Compact Flouresnt in my 10 gal. Looks really nice.
