Has anyone had any experience with a Current Nova light fixture? I have a 36" 2x39w for a 38 gallon freshwater tank.

I recently noticed that the "pink" freshwater T5HO bulb was burnt out (black ends, no more pink tint). I have only had the fixture for 6 months or so. Do these bulbs have a shorter life than normal? Can a bulb be worn out quicker if the light is controlled by an automatic timer?

Is it really necessary to have a "pink" freshwater bulb? If so, what are the benefit?

That's odd. The HO T5 bulbs supposedly have a longer life than PC or NO. Maybe you just got a "lemon" bulb? I'm not sure what the color temperature is on the pink bulbs, I just know that for a planted tank it's best to buy bulbs between 6500K and 10000K.
