Anyone know anything about Coral life lighting

The new 30gallon that we just purchased was setup as a saltwater tank. Jeff said it came with the standard hood with light built in and then they have a coral life lighting system..he says the bulb that's in there now is a 6 K 50/50..and an extra light thats a 10k...He didn't see any watts on it. I don't plan to have this setup as a saltwater tank so I'm just kinda wondering what these lights are like...I don't know much about lighting systems so any info is great. Thanks folks.

I also have the 10,000/actinic combo in my 20 gln nano.

Since its meant for corals it really throws alot of light. My tetras hate it to the point where if I have it on they go into a corner and stay put. I have since raised it up some and put a few strips of foil to shade certain areas so they have somewhere else to go. It also heats the tank alot when I take the foil out.
The plants seem to like it alot though.
I will be swapping mine out when I get a chance as its just too bright for my tastes.

Thanks Nate...I was thinking about making it a planted tank or using the lights for my 55 and making it a planted tank...Do you know how many watts the 6k and the 10K are??

Ok, Now that I've got it home I can see what's going on. Your 10,000/actinic combo is exactly what this is...It is a very bright little guy. If you know how many watt's yours are that would be great. Thanks again for helping me out.

Mine are 48 watts total but I think it would depend on ballast size and bulb size. Mine are small 18-20" if I had to guess. It would be different for a larger set up.

Hi Cesch, I have 10,000 k 20 watt 24 inch Corallife t-12, and 2800k hagen glo 20 watt t-8, and cordinate them during on times, because as Nate said, way bright for my tetras too, but good for plants. I guess I "try" to immitate the daily sun with the coordination of the two bulbs on dif. timers.

ps they are on my 30 long too.

Great buy, have fun
Dave

As djbrist indirectly pointed out, Coralife is a brand that manufactures both bulbs and entire fixtures. So when you say "it came with the standard hood with light built in and then they have a coral life lighting system", do you mean a standard hood with a Coralife bulb, or a standard hood and a Coralife lighting fixture?

Since it's a brand rather than a type, it's going to be difficult to provide any feedback on wattage unless we know what kind of fixture (T5, compact fluorescent, etc.) you have. It might be worth taking a look at their lighting line here and seeing if anything looks familiar. Otherwise, a picture of the bulb and a length/diameter measurement would probably help ID what it is.
