3 old 18" hoods OR 1 new 48" DIY built in

I have been refinishing, prepping and cleaning an 120 gal I bought used and I need a consensus in case this idea has already been tried and failed. The tank came to the generic glass pain covers with 3 oddball (all different) 18" florescent plastic light fixtures that just sit on top of the glass and in the way should you need to lift the glass to add food or whatever. This of course complicated by the now refinished 49" wood canopy that sits on top. I can only imagine there are 3 odd ball light covers because the originals ended up falling inside. Do you know if anyone has attached a 48" florescent plastic utility fixture to the top of these canopy doors (screwed in)? and if so do you know if they were attached more toward the front or toward the back? Do you think its a good idea or a bad one and why? Pic of my canopy below.

For those of you shyly interested I found out the 4' fixture idea will work however the problem is finding an all plastic housing as most are metal, too heavy and prone to rust. I may come up with a compromise and attach 3 or 4 slim plastic 18" florescent tube receptacle without hoods but with integrated covers, to the inside canopy door. It will provide even more clearance without clutter and be much lighter. And since the receptacles base slide on and off with screw rails, they can be moved around if needed. As soon as I'm done Ill provide the long anticipated photos.

Actually if your referring to the wood canopy its sort of an old school designed that Oceanic Systems (manufacturer) uses. It mostly decorative but a bit cumbersome to open and reach inside. The new models canopies have the doors in the front not the top so you just open rather then lift and you at water level access, no reaching in and down or slammed fingers. I just got back from Walmart and bought two $8 under shelf 24" florescent tube receptacles that come with the tubes already installed which I will build into the inside top canopy door. You'll see the pics when done, ill invite you over in a message and we can have virtual coffee and fish crackers.

Oh, I see, orignally the lights set on top of the glass lid but you'll be mounting them to the underside of the wooden lid.
