Hi Everyone,

Is their any difference between purchasing a normal ballast for flouresnt lights from a lighting\hardware store to what is supplied in the LFS?

Not really just make sure sure you use the right bulb to match the ballast etc, if your using a t8 ballast use t8 bulbs etc etc. I have used many different home brew lights on my tanks, from t12 to t12ho and t8s, t8 are my favorite as t5 and t5ho and PC still seem to be pricey. T8s are a nice form factor they are 1 inch thick so they take up less space then a t12 and they are cheap and cheap to replace bulbs too. And have a excellent lumen watt ratio.
