| | Fish Helper | i have a 29g as well...and my strip light is only rated at 20W. the only way to upgrade lighting would be to add more than one bulb. what is the rating on your strip? |

|
| | Fish Addict | i dont no rating but since bulbs dont come higher than 20 wat for our aquariams i have be looking at a retrofit kit the last week trying to decide |

| | Fish Helper | is it a perfecto tank? with a perfecto hood? if your hood is perfecto, then if you take out the bulb, there should be a little sticker that will tell you the wattage of the strip. it'll save you some money on a kit if it is higher than 20W. hope that helps |

| | Fish Keeper | I went for a compact fluorescent over my 29...65W. Not sure what your goal is. |

| | Fish Addict | i have a planted tank. 20 wat bulb and DIY co2 tank. do they make plant bulbs for a 29g higher than 20 wat.
i could look @ wattage on hood but it seems pointless @ this moment in time.
because my blulbs hotand i still a not shure if i can get a bulb with higher wattage rating. |

| | Fish Helper | well IMO i'd be wary of putting anything higher than a 20W in that socket...just my opinion. i do know that say, for instance, the socket was 20W, and you put a bulb that was higher than 20W in the socket, then that would be very bad. so IMO if you want a higher wattage bulb, i'd either get a new strip, or in your case a whole new hood/canopy.
if you want, i'm in the process of drawing up the plans for a canopy for my 29. it'll have three 20W T8 bulbs. two will be for flourescent lights im guessing 4200K, and one for actinic. this will help to mimic sunrise/sunset and full daytime lighting as one can control when all three are on. if you'd like i'll post the plans when i'm done. im guesstimating a cost at ~60 for the strip lights, ~10 for wood, and ~10 for paint, timers, other stuff. if you want i can post the plans. it looks as if it might be cheaper than bought hoods, and probably a higher quality. no guaruntees tho...i havent tried building it yet. |

So you can't put a 65W compact fluorescent bulb into your existing light fixture, which is a regular fluorescent. |

| | Fish Addict | ya i know its a retrofit.
wat do u guys think about a lite like this http://www.americanaquariumproducts....erCompact.html
Standard CFL fits ALL incandescent fixtures, converting your standard bulb to a high output Daylight aquarium bulb.
• Bulb length for base of bulb to the tip= 5-1/4" (13 cm). Diameter (width) is 1" (2.75 cm)
• Great for planted aquariums, with Kelvin range (PAR) best for plants (5000K- 7500K).
For an example of the nanometer output of this bulb, please see the color graph in the PAR section of this page: "Aquarium Lighting"
• Uses only 15 Watts with a lumen output similar to a 75 watt standard bulb (with a 62 lumens per watt output). An inexpensive alternative to incandescent aquarium lights for both fish and especially plants.
• Superior to standard power compact bulbs for aquariums; Wider Nanometer range and higher lux (Both important to fish and plants)
• Safe for Fresh or Saltwater.
• Great idea for inexpensive yet plant capable aquarium hoods; simply purchase a basic aquarium hood with two incandescent sockets (most LFS have these) and instead of using standard incandescent aquarium bulbs, use these bulbs instead!
Available in two colors:
*6400 K Daylight- $8.99
*12,000 K Blue- $8.99
this is the info on the lighting |
