do i need a light

Hi guys. I hope someone can advise me as I am a bit confused about lighting. I have a new 150 litre tank which I am setting up. It is in an area which gets lots of natural light. I don't understand why a tank light is necessary if the tank will get plenty of natural light. Do you think my fish will be ok without a light?

In the winter our sun sets very early. I know with my tanks if I kept the light out the tank would be pretty dark and the fish would always think its either night time or dusk. They really should have some light on their tank to copy the natural daylight/night time routine. On days when the sun is shining you can keep the lights off during the day, but on rainy and cloudy days your fish will be in the dark.

when you say "lots of natural light" do you mean "direct sunlight"
if so this is bad for your tank, and will result in very heavy alge growth and increased water temps. Indirect light is fine and can be used to delay having to turn on the tank lights until much later in the day.

Fla_Larry makes a good point, and so does capekate. I think you need a light of some sort, worst come to worst I'd get a desk lamp, but a real aquarium light would be the best for your fish.
