oh geez.... I dont know a "particular" bulb, but for a low-tech 55 gallon (low tech meaning plants with low light requirement 1-2watts per gallon and no co2 additives), you'd need around 110 watts total... so, whatever bulb, or bulbs that add up to that would be great.

We're going to need a bit more information than just bulb length, such as what type of bulb (incandescent, fluorescent, CF, etc.) and what wattage your fixture can support.

Remember to check the maximum wattage your lamp assembly can handle safely. It is possible that you may need to replace the whole lamp assembly if you upgrade from standard fluorescent lamps -with the likely exception of Compact Fluorescent lamps- to a higher rated one.

I have done upgrades in WPG by placing another lamp behind the hood. Please read the data printed in your lamp and post it. I am keeping Black Amazon Swords -although not "pearling"- in the lower end of their WPG.

Type of bulb; Florescent. I did not know incandescent bulbs came in 18" lengths.
I do not know the answers to the other questions. I guess I am asking for some ideas about what type of bulbs work well with low-light plants.
