| Lunar Lighting Any thoughts on the use of Lunar or nocturnal lighting in a freshwater tank. My daughter is getting a tank in her room and wants to be able to see it at night. (substitute nightlight as well) Has anyone used them? Good or bad results? |

| I really havent used them, but they should be good for the fish because they simulate night time... I want to try one as well. |

| I also have not used them, but have seen photos of them here in fishlore and on other sites. They are really nice looking and a wonderful way to watch the fish at night. If I could afford them I would have them in my tank. I have heard nothing but good things about them. |

| That would be a great nightlight for a kids room (or an adult's)
I use 'lunar' lighting on my aquariums, and it helps when turning on the 'day' lighting by the fish not going from total darkness to sudden bright light. Very seldom is bodies of water completely dark, except at depth.Lunar lighting is good for the fish and plants.
A flourescent blue light works well and there are specialized Moon Lights you can get also |

| The moon lights are great! And come in a variety of colors. The blue as SOF mentioned are really nice looking in a tank at night. I love them! |

| I have LED luner lights in my cichlid tanks and my SW nano, they are really nice! As far as for looks, I think your daughter will love it you can see the fish swimming around in the tank w/ them on. |

Could I use Moon lights at night and no tank lights during the day ? How would that affect the mosses and Amazon Sword in my tank ?

drew | If you used moon lights you will still have to use daytime lighting for your plants, they require so many watts of lighting to grow sufficently (different for different plants) My amazon sword does great w/ just a reg light from a 10g tank, however their are other plants that require a lot more wattage per gallon to survive/thrive. |

Our light on our 55 has them built in that lighting system was $200) I could actually use it for SW though. The lunars on my 36g were $15 plus shipping and we mounted it ourselves. |

| We got one of the ones on Dr. Fosters site. We got the white. it looks great at night. It is mounted above the filter flow and makes dappled light. I would imagine it accurately simulates a shallow stream on a moonlit night. I will post a pic soon. The unit only cost about $15. Had to rig it up with velcro since I had a plastic hood. It only came with screws. |
