48" coralife strip light can I use it?

I got a coralife 48" strip light with my 75gal when I bought it. Is there a minimum wattage I can put in? it's a double tube fixture and I might have to replace the ballast in it which I'm not to sure I can get to.

Anyone have experience with these fixtures? Should I post this in the SW section?

I don't know if you'll be able to find bulbs that fit the endcaps in any wattage other than 55W or 65W, but both work.

If I go for a planted tank don't I have to have a minimum of 2 watts per gallon? although the 65 watt may be enough.....

You don't have to have 2WPG, you just have to make sure that you choose pants that require the approximate amount of light (or less) than what you're providing.

Pretty much anything on this list and maybe some of these will be fine with the amount of light you would get from that fixture.

How can I find out what bulbs to get? Like what name brand?

Brand doesn't really matter. If it's 55 or 65W, and has the correct pin configuration at the base, it should work.

There's a good picture of what the base of the bulb needs to look like here.

plus being that its a very standard fixture you could get bulbs from walmart or home depot for it. just make sure you get the T5 bulbs and anything will fit.
