switching from incandecent to florecent

I have a 5.5 gal aqaurium and the lighting is designed for two incandecent bulbs. However I want to put some live plants in it and my LFS said that you could try compact flourecents. anyone have any ideas about this?

I switched my incandescent over to flourescent, and I like it tons better. There are compact flourescents that will fit into the incandescent spot, and they work great.

Flourescents are much better for plants, they are more efficient, they last longer, and they dont produce as much heat.... seems like a good recommendation by a LFS for once lol!

I use 2 x white fluorescent. My tank is 75cm in depth. A very low light aquarium.

BUT my plants are flourishing.

I had 3 stalks of Water Wisteria and now I have more than 10 stalks. I gave 2 stalks to my neighbour and transferred 1 to the spare tank.

Java Moss is also growing. I snip a little off and plant them again.

No negative effect on fishes.

Of course, there's cost savings when it comes to the electricity bill.

Screw in two compact fluorescent bulbs and there ya go! Instant fluorescent lighting.

I use the CFL bulbs on 2 of my tanks and I love them!

When they first came out with screwin florescent bulbs I used to modify my hoods to get them in there. Now with the compacts I used them in all my hooded tanks. More light, less heat and longer life for less electricty. Win, Win, Win.

Ok so I've got them in there now... they're 13 Watts each (I don't know what that is per gal math is not my strong point lol.)
