I need to start timing my lighting (need a good timer)

The algae situation is getting out of hand. More on this another day... I read that it grows the easiest when it has the same amount of light uninterupted for a long period of time. So in an effort to get it under control and keep it there I am going to start timing my lights.

I currently have a AH Supply 4x55 Bright Kit. That consists of two 2x55w Bright Kits each with a chord. Four bulbs altogether. I need a good timer that is easy to use so I can time one of the bright kits (two 5500K bulbs) to turn on for 4 hours in the morning, turn both kits on in the mid-day then toward the evening, turn just one of the kits (two 6700k bulbs) on again.

Any timer that accepts 3-prong grounding plugs would suffice. FYI, I don't want no siesta period, I read about that and don't plan to do that. I just want 2 of my bulbs on 4 hours, all 4 bulbs on 4 hours then 2 bulbs on 4 hours again giving me a total of 12 hours.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure how best you could run this but I think that petsmart has a day/night powerbar. That might work, but I don't have any experiance with it. The other option is to try and run each light on a different timer.

I have a simple timer like this one:

And I connect that to an extension cord that powers the ligths:

It is cheaper!

I bought a Timer at Walmart for $5. If you bought two, it would work, then set it up to run the lights at the time you want.

$10 total!

Alright...I'll definately consider two timers. In fact, that's probably what I'll just do.

BTW, this is the noon burst to those unaware. It's supposed to control algae well. Some use the siesta (dark period) period to stimulate the natural darkness that occurs during the thunderstorms in the tropics but I want to do the noon burst to stimulate the mid-day when on normal days, the sun would be at it's brightest.

These are a little bit more expensive, but work great. You can set up mutiple on/off times, Plus they have a battery back up.
