"Any" florescent bulb will work but...

You may want a powerful light. It depends on what you want. Low light? Medium? or High? Low is about 1-2 watts per gallon, medium is about 2-3 watts per gallon, and high is about 3-5 watts per gallon. So if you wanted medium-low (2 watts per gallon) you could have 58 watts total, which would mean more than one bulb.

A color temp. of about 5000-6500k is good for plants. But all this is assuming that you want plants, if not the color temp doesn't matter and the watts per gallon is just to determine how bright the aquarium will be and it doesn't really matter.

I have coralife dual strip 2 X 64 watt 6700k lights on my 29gal and the plants just smoke... Joking they grow really fast but i have CO2 injections and and i dose with flourish its worth it to see your plants go crazy. The lights are the most expensive if you go for a heavily planted tanks i payed $60 for the CO2 and flourish and $200 for the light.

good luck

Ryan

P.S it wont make your tank look purple
