Need lighting advice

I have a 65 watt on my 20 gal. My plants are really thriving at this point but I've noticed, now that my watersprite has almost reached the top of my aquarium, blue-green algae is starting to grow on the uppermost leaves. I'm assuming this is because it has gotten closer to my light? What should I do about this? I currently have my light on for about 9 hrs a day because I have some plants that require more light (cabomba, sword plants etc.) otherwise I'd cut back on how long I leave my light on. Should I trim back the watersprite? Thanks for any advice! =)

it would probably be best to cut it back a little

That happens on ours too.. even with a 15w tube. I drop it in the shrimp tank for a couple days and they clean it.
