Aquarium Light Replacement

I was considering buying new bulbs at a higher wattage for this hood.

Any suggestions. I have a quite a few low light plants and the currect wattage is 40 which gives me <1 wpg. I am aiming for 1-1.7 wpg. I was also considering buying a C02 injection system. I know it is recommended for only medium to high light required plants but I figured that it would help out the low light plants alot.

Tell me what you think on both of these. It would be greatly appreciated.

The wattage of straight florescent tubes is governed by their length, so I don't think you can go with a higher wattage one. Besides, the ballast and circuitry is usually designed to handle the wattage of the standard bulb for the hood, and a higher wattage bulb could overload it, which has the danger of it causing a fire.

Your best alternative would be to get a different light fixture, either one with two straight bulbs, or a compact florescent one (CFs have a higher output for their size than regular bulbs).
