lighting

can someone tell me why a metal halide bulb runs 60 some dollors at the petshop but the same bulb on ebay is a fraction of the price. are they the same bulb?

For the same reason that a regular/standard 20W fluorescent lightbulb bulb costs around $35 at my local pet shop, and it costs less than HALF that price online, LOL

Now, seriously, I don't know why they do that, but almost EVERYTHING costs TWICE as much at a local fish store, than online. That's why I buy most of my aquarium supplies online.

Selling online cuts a lot of costs versus a standard store, and ESPECIALLY against a fish store, which has to runs lights, filters and heaters sufficient for all the tanks, plus pay employees to monitor all that.

An online store might consist of one or two employees sitting in their house, they just invested in a bulk shipment of certain items. So, yes, its most likely the same MH light, and although there are "sub par" lights, that mostly applies to the wrong spectrum.
