Kuhli Loach Tank Depth?

What would be a minimum depth of water for Kuhli loaches? Just curious because I think a really long tank for just them would be cool. I guess it would also depend on how tall of plants someone would want, but still. What do you think they'd be comfortable at as a minimum depth?

Welcome to Fishlore!

Because they prefer to hang out on the bottom, I think they'd be able to tolerate a fairly shallow tank.
You'll run into other problems like maintaining heat in the tank before you go too shallow for the kuhlis.
However shallow you go, though, make sure that the top of the tank is kuhli-proof. If they feel like exploring, they will do so, and have been known to escape tanks. My tank with kuhlis has a lip that extends a half inch in, and then there's at least four inches from water surface to opening, and I have not lost any kuhlis. I also have a very big tank, so it's unlikely that they're feeling stressed, either.

Thank you. Not nessicarily going to start a kuhli tank, just exploring some possible options for sometime in the next year. I figure starting to do research this far in advance on a few different species and tank possibilities will give me lots of time to think, dwell, and decide on something that will truely be enjoyable for me.

I have never had a problem with my Khuli Loach jumping out and I keep the tank water level high. When I first got him I worried him might, since he likes swimming around and perching on the heater and there is an opening in the lid above the heater (I don't think he can reach the opening around the filter system). There will always be excepts to a species typical behavor/personalities though. A more shallow tank would be harder to maintain temperature in and there could possibly be a problem with water evaporation, which could cause fluctuations in parameters. If you can control these, then it would be something cool to set up.
