tank population

The other day in Wal-Mart I decided to take a look at the fish. I came across some black khuli loches being sold in the same type of containers that they would normally sell a betta in. I felt bad for the guys in a way and I was thinking about getting one (thought they were pretty neat, too )

I just wanted to know If I could somehow manage to sueeze one of these guys into my 5 gallon with 4 neon tetras. I know, it's tight, but could I do it if I kept up on water changes? (Like a change every week)

Thanks for any help!

I would say yes if you have a filter that can keep up with the new bioload. I do water changes weekly anyway! Wallyworld has 10 gall starter kits for 25 bucks!

I believe I've read around here that while the khuli's get to about 4-5 inches they really only count as 1-1.5 bioload wise. But I do believe they are like cories and otos, needing to be in groups of at lest 3+.

I think it will be overcrowded! 5 G tank is too small for Kuhlis, they prefer to be in a group of 5-6.

I agree with the last couple of people:

It would overcrowd your tank to have enough of them together to keep them happy. Plus kuhli loaches need lots of room, they are fast movers and if startled in a small tank they could injure themselves. They also need plenty of hiding places.

Thanks for the help. I'm considering getting a bigger tank now.
