Can I have kribs in this tank?

I am considering turning my 35 US gallon - 24"L X 16"W X 21"H - into a krib tank - is this enough room for one or two pairs of krib?

What other species may I put in there that would not pose a threat to any spawn?

Are there species of catfish/corydoras/loaches that would get along with kribs?

Hello Jen welcome to Fishlore!

I think that size would be ok for one pair. If you wanted to go with 2 pairs you might want to try a longer tank.

As far as other species i dont think any other africans would be ok in that sized tank... So maybe you should look into other fish like schooling fish. Maybe a school of Blackskirt tetras? Thos are really nice and look awesome in schools

as far as catfish... you could try a rubberlip pleco
Not so sure about corydoras... you might want to check on that with another member.

Enjoy the site!

I agree with Tony One pair would be perfect for that tank. As far as tankmates go, I would go for an African theme and add a school of congo tetras and a school of upsidedown catfish. Welcome to Fishlore

alright thank you!
Would 6 congo tetras be alright in a shoal or should I up it closer to 10?
Also, would approx 6 upside down cats be alright in a shoal?
And would these fish pose a threat to the potential krib spawn?

Normally I would say no, but the with the footprint of your tank I'd suggest a smaller species. Congos get quite large as far as tetras go, and need more horizontal swimming space than your tank would provide. Take a look at some of the smaller varieties of tetras; there are many that would do well with kribs.

In the past I have seen a 6 inch maybe even bigger upside down cat in my dads tank. 6 of those would be way too much for a 35 gallon alone without all the other fish.

you have a high tank which is good you could add some tetra or tiger brab. some people would say don't add any bottom fish which i agree but my krib make sure the other fish stay on one side of the tank.. here's a tip add whatever fish you want first before you add the krib...

KoAsT

29 gallon
2 krib (pair)
10 neon tetra
2 corycat
2 lg female guppies some fry

are there any african tetras that would go nicely in the tank? The african theme is a new adventure for me so I appreciate all the advice you can give!

What would be an acceptable number of upside down catfish?
and if you could list specific types of tetras and how many the shoal should be I would reallllllly appreciate it....

how does this sound....

2 X krib
5 X neon tetra
5 X black neon tetra
5 X green neon tetra
2 X upside down catfish

the tank is already established with silica sand substrate - current stock is ACF which are being retanked once I am ready to stock this tank

Make sure you have lots of hiding spots for the up side down cats, they can get agressive when it comes to hiding spots, and they might be able to get ahold of some fry too, the cats are build like tanks

Start off by using the rule an inch of fish or if smaller then a fish for gallon of water then break it down to what you think would be compatible.

I would say that is good, I would steer clear of upside down catfish as they could easily threat a spawn. Good Luck!

thanks!
I might increase it up to 20 tetras by adding 5 lemon tetras

what do you think?

I would say 20 tetras is pushing it but you should be ook aslong as you add them 5 at a time, and make sure you add the kribs last

will do....have been looking at other possible fish and am curious about this stocking (don't mind me....I would rather try lots of combos BEFORE i actually buy the fish and have errors)

2 x krib
10-15 x tetra
5 x common hatchet fish

hatchet fish should be ok but I would definitly add these first as some do not farewell with stress, and they are excellent jumpers!!
