Killed my Pleco

I have a bonded pair of kibs in a ten gal tank... had them in my 55 gal with the rest of my semi aggressive fish but decided that I would take a shot at breeding some kribs.... the 10 gal use to be the home of my two paradise fish but they became very inactive so I moved them back to the 55 gal community.... well the kribs have been in the tank for about a week and shared it with a pleco i picked up about a month ago... well everything seemed to be going well and tonight when i went in to turn off the light and check up on them the pleco was dead right outside of the cave I placed in the tank... He had a lot of little holes all over his fins but didn't seem to have damage anywhere else I wouldn't think the kribs would kill him but if they have eggs I thought they might... IDK any suggestions?

If they have eggs or are getting ready to, they may have done it. Or it died on its own, wait a few days and see if you have eggs.

I'm sorry Ace. Do the kribs seem to be keeping to one corner or particular piece of covered decor? That's probably a sign that they're spawning and I've read that even though they're normally docile, they can become extremely aggressive during this time.

Yes when I pulled the pleco out the female when into the cave but the male didn't run like usual he stood at the entrance and would not move just looked at the net... it was strange... kinda reminded me of 300 with the way he was standing in the entrance of the cave... I took a flash light to see but it doesnt look like there are eggs in the top of the cave... I could pick the cave up but im worried just in case there are eggs i don't want to disturb them and then the mom and dad not care for them.

Hello Ace. Sorry to hear you lost your Pleco. It sounds like the male Krib is in a defensive posture guarding the cave. A trait of many different species. A wise decision not to disturb them at this point. Keep us posted.

It may have been due to aggression, that tank is terribly overstocked. If you are serious about breeding Kribs, they need a large tank ASAP
