Krib Spawning Questions

Hello,
Im wanting to breed kribensis cichlids soon and im going to get myself a 25 gallon tank. i ask my LFS and they said i can have 2 krib pairs in there. i came home and checked out some sites. a couple said 10 gallons a pair and the other couple said 15-20 gallons a pair. it will have some good filtiration, heating, planted, with a sand substrate . wht do u think and i also have some different quistions for the tank.

1) is brickie sand ok for substrate.
2) do i add females before males or is there a good order for them to establish a pair from 2 females and 2 males

And any other things you might suggest.
thank you for the help

Kribs are one of the easier Cichlids to spawn, they are great parents and will protect their babies. I would only put one pair in a 25gal tank in you want to spawn them, as two pairs will fight over territory. One pair of kribs will produce a lot of fry anyway, especially if they are the only fish in the tank, as you will then get a near 100% survival rate. When choosing a breeding pair it is important to select a male who is noticably bigger than the female, as she won't accept an undersized male as a mate and will likely kill him. The fish need caves to spawn in, and should be fed a varied diet of live, frozen and flake food to condition them for spawning. I personally wouldn't use building sand for subsrate as it is very sharp. Pool filter sand is the best to use, as it is fine and smooth. As for adding the fish, it doesn't really matter what order they go in. As long as you have a good looking male who is bigger than the female they will pair up. Heres a few pics of my Krib pair.
