Unexpected arrivals + saftey concern

Hi guys

I noticed my female being a bit more shy than usual lately and tonight i found out why . She has a flowerpot full of Fry! yay .

from what i have observed so far mum and dan have been fiercely guarding their little cave although i have 5 Crimson rainbowfish in the tank also . the male krib is much bigger than them but im still a little worried . their cave is well protected by big clumps of valis and its near the back of the tank .

should i move the rainbows out just to be on the safe side?

Hi Matt
congrats on your spawn! If you keep a community tank its very hard to keep fry alive. It seems that all the fish will find them a meal to go after. I dont know what size tank you have now, but if you can do it, why not move the kribs, and pot of eggs to another tank? Or if you also have the room to move the rainbows, you can always move them. The chances that your fry will survive in a community tank is slim. I dont know enough about Kribs to give you more advice and hopefully some Krib owners will be along to give you a hand.

I was wondering if you could section off your tank like they do with Bettas. So you wouldn't have to move them. Is this something that is commonly done? I'm just throwing that out there for someone to respond to. Sometimes it hard to get a tank going fast enough to save newcomers.: )

Thats a good idea Jess,
Dividers come in all sizes and I have had to use one on the 55 & 29 from time to time when my fish were 'acting' up.

Krib moms are very protective and won't let too many of the fry get eaten. Best moms I have seen yet.
Since they spawned with the rainbows in there I would leave them there. I removed my tetra after the eggs were laid and my female krib beat the out of the male who lost his tail and died of infection later. They need target fish to keep em from turning on each other.

thanks for the advice guys , sorry for the late reply been hectic at work this week . I still have them all in the same tank . i had a good go at trying to move the rainbows but there way to fast for me and getting them excited causes the male Krib who is much bigger than them to go on a rampage , so i figured it best to let them be. There are now about 15 left but they are growing rapidly and in the last 3 or 4 days i havent noticed any more missing .

thanks for the advice guys . once these little guys grow up ill move them all into a 350 L tank that im building .

Id also like to thank everyone at fishlore for all the info and help i dont post much but i browse the forums when ever i can ,

Thanks!
