I had them in with all kinds of different fish over the years. From my experience, depending on the individual temperament of the fish, they did fine. Angelfish pair work pretty good with them in a 33g+. Larger tetra make great target fish for them...too fast for them to catch but enough of a distraction to keep em busy protecting their babies or territory. I found in a species only tank the female got really territorial and protective of young...so much so that she torn the caudal fin right off of my male...he got an internal infection & died suddenly a few weeks later.
They need to be in a community setting so they don't fight with each other too much. If they are with other fish they tend to defend things together instead of against each other...if that makes any sense to you.
They would work with the fish you have in your tank if that is what you want to know.
