Aggressive Female Krib

Hello all....

I have a problem with an aggressive female krib and I would like to know if I should be concerned with the behavior, or if this is normal.

I had my 50g tank set up with 3 congo tetras, a pair of kribs, and a couple of clown loaches. However, my male krib died months ago - my ex didn't take care of the tank well at ALL when we split and I moved out - and I had to put them all in a 10 gallon temporarily until I could get my 50g up and running. So they were all in the small tank for about 4 months.

Just got my 50 gallon up and running and everyone seemed fairly happy. Til I put another male krib in the tank. He's a juvenile and now my female krib chases him ALL AROUND THE TANK. She pinked up really good and is hiding in her cave a lot... but she's become very agressive. Is this normal? She's not bothering any other tankmates, but my poor male is scared to death. It's been about a week since I put him in there. Do I wait it out? Remove her? I'm at a loss... She's being quite the little brat.

Thanks in advance.

This is typical female krib behavior.
You might want to remove the male and let him get a little bigger before reintroducing him to the tank.

What kind of hiding places do you have in the tank?
More hiding places/things that break up line of sight, might help.

Thanks Dino. I have several hiding places... rocks, caves, and pots. Lots of plants. I even moved things around and put her cave on the OTHER side of the tank. He seems to have sought refuge in the corner. I might just have to take him out. I knew I should have told the LFS I wanted a BIG male!! Dang it.

Any chance you could exchange him for a larger one? I think you should move him PDQ, or the stress will end up killing him. OR she will. Could he live for a couple of months in the 10 gallon tank?
