Telling the Gender of Kribs

I know that the females' purple on their belly is more intense than males but recently I've read somewhere on a few websites before that males have spots on their caudal fins while females dont. Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Telling the Gender of Kribs

Any krib male or female I have had always had at least 3 spots on their fins Except my female now has a lot of spots on her fin.
The male are usually a lot bigger than the female too.

There are several ways to tell the difference between male and female kribs. In general the male kribs are bigger and longer/more slender than the females, the males also have an extended dorsal fin that tends to go to a sharp point reaching the tail. Females have big round bellies, and yes the "cranberry in the belly" look. The ventral fins are also longer in the males and more rounded in the females. There are so many different color variations in kribs that it is hard to distinguish the sexes by color alone, same goes for spots. My female has more spots then my male for example.
