Yeah. It's pretty sad. There's a 100g at a nearby Chinese restaurant that has two koi the size of the platinum one on the right, and then I think three more that are bigger than the gold one in the center.

Goldfish and Koi are considered good luck to the Chinese. It's too bad that they are not always housed with the respect and care that they deserve.

And i would hate to think what will happen to those fish when they get to big for the tank and the restaurant owners have to get rid of them.

Likely because they're in a tank that's probably around 150g, and the big platinum koi on the right should have more swimming room than that tank just for itself.

That seems to be a common problem. Clueless people get fish/reptiles that will potentially get large and house them in tanks too small!

This may partly be a cultural thing. Different cultures place different emphasis on treatment of animals. The restaurant near me is operated by a first-generation immigrant, who grew up under a different set of social mores than what most of us have grown up under.

That is true. I had a landscaping buisness in Arizona for many years. My crew was all Mexican. They would kill everything that moved snakes, Gila monsters, Chuckwalla.. I would run after them and yell "No Leave it alone!!!!" they particullarly hated Lizards for some reason. I really liked the Lizards there ..they are big! They thought I was nuts because I would not let them kill the animals.

It could just be that lizards and snakes have the potential to be poisonous, and if you leave a poisonous animal alive, it may end up biting a child who thinks it's pretty. In one way, they're being very responsible. In another, they're not. In my (and your) opinion, teaching children is a more responsible answer.
