Hey guys. I'm a little new on owning Koi fish.
I was just wondering if it would be possible to buy Koi fish when they're small and sell them for profit when they're large.

I built a decent Koi pond in my backyard and I'm thinking about making it much larger if I can make a profit off of selling them.

Can I make a decent side income by growing and selling?

If you're lucky and diligent, you could make a decent profit.
If you're willing to sink money into startup, are lucky and diligent, you could make a lot.
For the latter, you would need to get show-grade koi, which can sell for hundreds or even thousands as juveniles, but almost always go for thousands as adults.

However, in the end, it's a matter of having something people will buy. You've got to be a good salesperson, have people in your area who are willing to buy (or be willing and able to ship out without killing the fish, an expensive prospect). You might want to check and see if you have a koi club anywhere nearby. You can talk to some folks from there to get an idea of potential customers in the area.

A Friend of my got a dam on a farm, 4 years ago he put in 20 koi in about 7 inch's long he forgot all about them until 7 months ago he saw something moving in the water,
HE called me to come to the farm and have a look we got a large net you would not believe how may koi were in there so far we took out 480 koi all about 10 inch's long the parents are huge, sells them for $10 EACH it adds up i wish i had the dam.and there still heaps in there.
