I just had a lovely surprise. i was thinning out some plants in our 50 gallon tank and I spotted some tiny panchax fry. I was wondering if it would be best to leave them to fate, or if I should put them in a hatchery. They are approx 1cm long at the moment and feeding fine, hanging out at the top where some of the other fish cannot get. Are they likely to be eaten by their parents? Any advice would be most welcome,

The fry are about an inch long now, i didn't take them out of the tank as they had a good hiding place (nursery) above the bogwood. They look cute, although they are small you can see their typical panchax features, I think there are three left out of four;-) I'll post a picture soon.

I almost got some killifish but I couldnt find any colorful ones at the petstore. So i got some platys. Anyways i just would like to see some real pics instead of the ones from google.

I had the same thing happen. Cleaning out the filter compartment in my tank holding Odessa Barbs, a Petricola, 1 Bristlenase and 4 Golden Wonder Panchax, I found a tiny fry. I put him in my empty quarantine tank using water and filters from the tank he was in. He grew really quickly. I say he because it only took a few weeks for his gold and red hue to develope. For a while his colours were better than his fathers. That was about 3 months ago and since then he has been put back in his parents tank with all the others. His colours have faded a bit under pressure from his fathers threats. In those 3 months I have bread the Panchax in the quarantine tank for 2 weeks and returned them back to the big tank. I have had fry appearing for the last 2 weeks but still have no idea how many there are.

We have three juvi panchax now, two are growing well, one is really distorted and I don't know if it will survive... a pic below of them back in June, I'll take an up to date one tomorrow and try to upload, this one's too small to see.

No, I think we'll keep them for now, they are such fun fish, but if they spawn again we might have to move some on...

It's been another 3 weeks and it turns out there are only about 10 fry in the tank. I have now read that I could have left the parents another week before removing them. Maybe next time. 2 or 3 of them have started to turn yellow.

No, I am in Middlesex. Just west of London. The photo's are of my Blue Dempsey and the father of my Golden Wonder Panchax with 3 of my 4 Odessa Barbs.
